My Birthday Week…

Date July 22, 2008 | 11:24 PM

Friday is my 27th birthday, and my friends and I are trying to work our way up to it.  Tomorrow, I’m going to Britt and Kayla’s place in Burleson to watch Batman Begins, and on Thursday we’re all driving to Dallas together to see The Dark Knight on IMAX.  Friday we’re making our own pizzas and partaking in the Third Annual Apple Birthday Bash.

Two years ago I had some bad apples that I had to throw away.  Instead of throwing them away, a couple friends and I got out our bats and started apple batting practice.  The results were amazing: instant flying applesauce.  Last year I kept the tradition alive with a couple other friends.  And this Friday, with yet another set of friends, I’m keeping it going.  We’re not sure where we’re going, but I’ve already got the apples.  Some of them may end up in apple tarts I’m thinking of making, but we’ll definitely toss a few up and blast’em.

For my birthday, I upgraded my camera bag.  I’d been using a Tamrac Digital for the last year and a half, but it came time to get something a little bigger.  I went into Fort Worth Camera Supply today expecting to get a Kata bag, but when I looked at it I found it lacking on the inside.  It looked neat, but the interior wasn’t any bigger than what I already had.  The guy helping me found a larger bag that actually cost less than the Kata.  This is my new bag: a Lowepro CompuTrekker AW.

My First Apartment…

Date July 21, 2008 | 11:10 PM

These things should come with instruction manuals… and 30 day return policies.

First, the good news: I’ve only seen one ant since I got back Saturday night.

The bad news: my air conditioning is still sketchy at best.  All day long today, even with the A/C set between 70 and 75, I wasn’t able to get it below 80.  It topped out around 85, and right now it’s at 79 (it’s been dark now for over 2 hours).  The A/C doesn’t stop running; it just doesn’t do its job.

And in the bathroom I kept finding black flakes and specks around, so I checked the vent.  Mold.  I took pictures and I’ve written a letter to apartment management.  I’m going to take it in tomorrow, but rest assured I’m going to get this dealt with.

Here’s a question for you former apartment dwellers: is this normal, or should I be upset?  I’m trying not to throw a fit when a fit need not be thrown, but I’m also not interested in getting shafted by crappy management.  Thoughts?

Praying for the Anglicans…

Date July 16, 2008 | 8:21 PM

I encourage you to pray for the Anglican Communion and its leaders these next few weeks.  Today they kicked off the Lambeth Conference, a meeting of the Anglican leaders that occurs once every 10 years.  It will last from July 16th through August 3rd.  The BBC has a good article on what the conference is about, so I’ll encourage you to read it.

I think it’s important that we pray for the leaders of Christian denominations regardless of what affiliation we have.  As part of the universal Church- the Body of Christ- it is our duty to pray for their personal and corporate holiness.

Since the previous meeting, the Episcopal Church in the US has ordained women and gays, which caused a theological rift between them and the Church of England and Anglican Mission (Africa).  Those are just two of the more volatile issues being discussed, and many bishops (including most of the more evangelical Anglican Mission) have rejected invitation in protest.

Pray that the conference and its leaders will be led by and filled with the Holy Spirit, that those present will unite around the Word of God in love, and that the Truth will be upheld.  Pray for revival among the leadership and the entire Anglican Communion.
