It’s a Fixer-Uper…

Date September 30, 2008 | 4:29 PM

The head maintenance guy at my apartment stopped by to work on my toilet today. I’ve now met all three maintenance guys- all of whom are nice fellas. Sometimes it takes a whole crew to fix a place up. This time, he seemed to dislodge something in the toilet pipes, and it appears to be flowing better. I also had him check the water heater. It felt like I was boiling water just by turning the hot water on. It was set to the max 150F, so he reduced it to energy saver levels (about 125F he said). He says it’ll reduce my energy bill by about $40 or $50. That’s always good news. And since I’d had some clog problems that I hadn’t checked, he found a glob of hair from my predecessor that was easily one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever seen.

So in the last month, I’ve gotten my toilet worked on at least four times, my water heater temperature reduced, a new thermostat, and a huge hairball removed from my sink. If my toilet still has problems, he’s assured me they’ll get me a water saver toilet by the weekend.

I may have bad a lot of trouble since I moved in, including a drastic war against ants, but the folks who come to fix things are helpful and friendly enough. I still complain about the nasty carpet and the shoddy construction, but on the things they can fix, they’ve done a good job for me. That’s all I can ask at this point.
