Praying for the Anglicans…
July 16, 2008 | 8:21 PM
I encourage you to pray for the Anglican Communion and its leaders these next few weeks. Today they kicked off the Lambeth Conference, a meeting of the Anglican leaders that occurs once every 10 years. It will last from July 16th through August 3rd. The BBC has a good article on what the conference is about, so I’ll encourage you to read it.
I think it’s important that we pray for the leaders of Christian denominations regardless of what affiliation we have. As part of the universal Church- the Body of Christ- it is our duty to pray for their personal and corporate holiness.
Since the previous meeting, the Episcopal Church in the US has ordained women and gays, which caused a theological rift between them and the Church of England and Anglican Mission (Africa). Those are just two of the more volatile issues being discussed, and many bishops (including most of the more evangelical Anglican Mission) have rejected invitation in protest.
Pray that the conference and its leaders will be led by and filled with the Holy Spirit, that those present will unite around the Word of God in love, and that the Truth will be upheld. Pray for revival among the leadership and the entire Anglican Communion.
