A Gnocchi Dinner…

In keeping with my Italian cooking theme lately, for the last two nights I’ve experimented with gnocchi, an Italian pasta much like a dumpling. I was inspired by Giada de Laurentiis, who made some sort of cinnamon-sugar sauce to cover her gnocchi. Here’s what it looked like:
It wasn’t great, so I thought that I might add a little salt to the cinnamon-sugar concoction. That made it worse. Much, much worse. So it went in the garbage.
Then, tonight I decided to cook the rest of the gnocchi and go genuinely Italian with it. Throw in a little Prego tomato and basil sauce, feta, romano, and parmesan cheese, and you’ve got yourself something worth eating. And for a side, I made a grilled cheese sandwich. Wonderful! And as you can see, it looked much, much better.
And even though I’m not sure I care for gnocchi as opposed to other pastas, it wasn’t bad this way. For more in my Cooking with Joe series, click here.

i’ve tried to cook gnocchi on several occasions, and i’ve only come to one conclusion: the only gnocchi worth having is in a little cafe right outside the ruins of pompeii.
