I’m No Good at Baseball…

Date November 24, 2007 | 12:32 AM

I just thought you should know that I am not, in fact, a pitcher in Major League Baseball.  In rookie-league ball (with the pitching machine) as a kid, I got one hit all season- the last hit of my career, in the last game of my career.  Unless I’m dreaming, it was a triple, although they probably let me get that far because I was really out or something.  Anyway, I’m no good.

But there was a Joe Kennedy who was pretty good- good enough to pitch in the Big Leagues.  And right now, I’m sure his family is grieving pretty bad.  See, I’m 26, and he was 28 when he died today.  So I know how young the guy was, and I can imagine his what his family might be going through.

I have an idea.  Why don’t you stop right now, and instead of reading whatever banter I’ve posted below, why don’t you stop and pray for his family and friends.  Pray that they’ll be comforted by the God who loves them.  Pray that they’ll be embraced by the believers in their lives.  Because when something like this happens, we remember how thankful we are that it didn’t happen to us… and how at least one family right now isn’t thankful.  They’re missing their husband, father, brother, son, or friend.  I bet they’d appreciate your prayer.  My family would… if it were Joe Kennedy the seminary student, instead of Joe Kennedy the pitcher.
