New Orleans Prayer Guide [Education]…

Last week I asked you to pray for our college students. Now I’m asking you to pray for the entire public school system in New Orleans. It’s no secret that the city was bankrupt before Katrina- you can imagine what it’s like afterward. I’ve been told that the average public school graduate here has the equivalent of a 7th grade education from elsewhere. I’m not sure how accurate that is, but I wouldn’t be surprised. There’s just no money for the education system- just like most big cities. And just like in those big cities, these kids have to concern themselves with making it in and out of school alive. Crime is a huge problem (as I’ve also already mentioned). These kids deserve and need better education. Here’s how you can pray:
- Pray for teachers- good ones, brave ones, and strong ones.
- Pray for more teachers. There aren’t enough- good, mediocre, or bad.
- Pray for the students’ safety.
- Pray that the faculty, staff, and students in the system would have wisdom.
- Pray for the parents, who often don’t understand the necessity of a solid education.
- Pray that the cycle of dropping out will end. These students barely have a chance to escape the hood, and just about none without better education.
As always, pray however you feel led. If you can think of more to pray about, please do. These kids deserve better, and the city can’t sustain itself without an educated population.
Here are a few links to look at regarding the New Orleans public school system:
