Day 4: Oh, Manitoba! [or] The Prairie Lake…

Date June 26, 2007 | 4:05 PM

Stop Sign: Trans-Canada Highway

Today I drove from Winnipeg to Brandon. It’s not far- less than 100 miles- so I took a detour up to Delta Beach on Lake Manitoba. I was a little disappointed- there wasn’t much to see where I went. I guess the more scenic areas are elsewhere. The delta area did remind me a lot of the salt marshes in Alabama where I grew up. And since I’ve seen plenty of that, I left and headed toward Brandon, which is known as “The Wheat City.”

While I was in Portage la Prairie (where I took my detour), I stopped at the world’s largest Coca-Cola can, which is really a water tower. It was behind an old motel and a Canadian Tire (Home Depot-Canada), and the one person out there was taking a smoke break. She looked at me pretty funny.

I’ve got to pick up some supplies at a grocery store. I think it’s going to be a much more relaxed evening. Tomorrow I drive from Brandon through Regina and Moose Jaw to Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

And you can see all the photos from this trip here.

    I had to laugh…dude, you’re in the middle of nowhere…. :)

Aww, Blaize. There was stuff. Like the World’s Largest Coke Can. But I was talking about going to the shore of a great Canadian lake. Lake Manitoba isn’t one of the “Great Lakes” we think about, but it’s not much smaller. Lake Manitoba and Lake Winnipeg take up like, most of Manitoba. Click here for a picture.

But for the most part, you’re right. Everything has looked relatively similar. But on Saturday… on Saturday I go to Calgary and see the Canadian Rockies.

Well, sounds beautiful needless to say. The Rockies sound fun too!
