Displace Me in New Orleans…

Displace Me

Today is Displace Me.  I can’t be there because I’ve got a lot going on health-wise and school-wise, but I’ve got several friends volunteering for it (and organizing it) here in New Orleans.  Sarah (an aforementioned friend) blogged about it.  It’s being held in the Tulane University Center Quad in Uptown.  I just wanted to bring it to your attention.

Displace Me is a demonstration that is meant to bring attention to the war in Uganda and to get legislators to notice and take action. The point of the demonstration is to travel a long distance to a host city, and spend the night in a mock displacement camp. This is to replicate the long trip to, and the miserable conditions of, the displacment camps in Northern Uganda.

Hey Joe. There are also over 2 million internally displaced in Colombia. If you’d ever want to go work among them, let me know by e-mail. I’m planning to take teams down at least 2 or 3 times in 2008, leaving from MSY.

Stuart, I can’t say much about Colombia, but I’ve got a two week trip to Canada planned for late June and early July this summer.

Joe (or Stuart, in case you re-glance at this post), let your friend Stuart know that there’s a girl in New Orleans (aka me) very interested in working with IDPs in Colombia.
