Greer-Heard Point-Counterpoint Forum on Intelligent Design…

Date January 21, 2006 | 11:06 PM

Last year I was given the privelege of attending the Greer-Heard Point-Counterpoint Forum at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. N.T. Wright, the Bishop of Durham (Church of England) and John Dominic Crossan (former co-chair of the Jesus Seminar) discussed their views on the Resurrection of Jesus. Wright held the evangelical viewpoint, whereas Crossan holds the non-evangelical point of view. Others who presented their views were Gary Habermas, Chuck Quarles, and William Lane Craig.

This year, Greer-Heard is hosting Michael Ruse (author of The Philosophy of Biology, and Taking Darwin Seriously), and William Dembski (the Director of the Center for Science and Theology at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary), who coined the term “Intelligent Design.” This year’s dialogue will be held at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia because of reconstruction at NOBTS post-Katrina. The main dialogue between Ruse and Dembski will be on Friday, Feb. 3rd at 7PM, and the paper presentations and dialogue among other scholars (including William Lane Craig, Martinez Hewlett, Francis Beckwith, and Wesley R. Elsberry) will be on Saturday, Feb. 4th from 10AM to 4PM.
