On Discipline and Servanthood…

Date May 30, 2005 | 2:54 AM

I’m watching The Last Samurai for about the fiftieth time now. Since the 7th grade I’ve had a fascination with Japanese history (as well as with Central and South American history, and Central Asian history). The discipline of the samurai is among the strongest throughout history. It is something that I have very little of, and would like to have a lot more of. Erwin McManus has written a lot about honor, courage, and integrity as a follower of Christ. The way of the servant, the samurai- the characteristics can be adapted to fit integrally into the Christian lifestyle. One of my goals during this summer is to gain discipline- to master my mind, heart, soul, and body, and to glorify my God through discipline.
