Long Weekend…

Date August 23, 2004 | 9:37 PM

I was at home this weekend. Friday through Sunday night. I think maybe I should recap this weekend for you.

Friday: I drove home Friday afternoon and when I got home I washed clothes and everything. I went to FBTC for the Christmas Store fundraiser to support Betti, as I’ve already mentioned. That girl can siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing. The worship band Dallas got to lead was real good- they’re from Living Word or something out in west Mobile. It rained like mad. I saw Carmen and Sarah and Joy and Soupie and Betti and people. It was nice. Then Soupie and I tried to get in contact with Melanie because she wasn’t answering her cell or home number and it seems she was supposed to get off early that night. So from 10-11 PM I tracked her down. She was at work. Outstanding. I got home and was just drifting to sleep at 12:30 while watching Andromeda on SciFi when my cell phone vibrates almost off the bookcase. I jump up and check it, thinking EMERGENCY EMERGENCY DANGER WILL ROBINSON. It was Mel. She doesn’t like storms, and it was STORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRMIN like a clams out there. So from 12:30 til about 2:38 AM we talked. Or rather, I talked when I could, and she would make sure I was still conscious if I got silent. Then somehow I was able to go to bed.

Saturday: I slept til about 11:50 AM. I like sleep. We ran some errands, and I went through some junk left in my room. My “the Life of Mammals” DVD set I ordered back in JULY finally showed up. I like animals too. So I packed some stuff up, got some other stuff together to bring, and then boom that was my day. We went out to eat at Smokey Bones and then chilled at the house.

Sunday: Again I slept late, primarily because I didn’t want to go to the Sunday School class that someone suggested I go to (the second Sunday School class). That’s the best excuse I can come up with. I really don’t like FBTC in the mornings. I’m not particularly sure why. I just don’t. So again I chilled. I talked to Angela some about church and how crappy things were there and how I felt like I still had a mission there. I made her sad so I stopped. Then at 5:00 I went down to the church to sit in on Soupie’s Dateable discipleship training class. It was a good class. We went to the actual service at 6:30 and then after that was a business meeting. Ken Nuss stepped down as music minister. Some of us had been expecting it for a while- he’s going to FBGulfport. I love his kids, I love his family, I love the guy- he’s a cool guy. It’s disappointing that he left, in the sense that some people pretty much forced him to leave. I’m pretty sick of it. We need to dump the 50 or so who are running the place into the ground and start showing that we aren’t a place for man, but a place for God. So Bro. Ken is gone in 2 weeks. I’m glad I was in town to see him resign though- honestly- just because I wanted to say goodbye. It’s not really goodbye though- Drew is still at Baker for a year until he graduates, then he’s off to UM and I can always go visit Bro. Ken in Gulfport or Ashley and Brandon in Baton Rouge. So it’s not really goodbye. But for others, I figure, it’s goodbye forever. I think people at FBTC wanted it that way- anybody who does God’s work is a threat to First Country Club. So I gave Soupie a ride to his in-laws so he could be with Rebekah (she left him at church so he could do more fundraising for the Christmas Store). Then I drove my 2 hours back to New Orleans.
